Horse chestnut, whose Latin name is Aesculus Hippocastanum, is a plant from the Sapindaceae family. The body of the horse chestnut tree is straight and densely branched and the top is flat. Leaves, consisting of 5-9 leaflets with pointed edges and toothed edges, are dark green in color. In summer it blooms white flowers with pink spots and pyramid-shaped clusters. The thick-walled capsules of these flowers are prickly. When the fruits ripen, the green prickly rind is split and the seed falls from 1-3 bright dark brown, bitter and bitter taste. These seeds and plants were called horse chestnuts since they were given to horses suffering from shortness of breath in the past. Horse chestnuts are propagated by seeds or stem cuttings. Fruits are similar to real chestnut, brown and 1-2 cm. in diameter. It is also used in animal husbandry because it is rich in nutrients. Its homeland is the Balkan Peninsula, but later spread to Europe. It is grown as ornamental plant in parks and gardens in our country.
